The client wanted to maintain the same square area of paving in this back garden but to replace it with a paving which was much less maintenance going forward. Generally the larger the flag you can lay the better, as there are much fewer joints. This principle is illustrated perfectly with the photo of the garden before-hand. The small block pavers create thousands of joints which over time had become full of moss, grass and weeds.

We chose the Tobermore Textured flag at the larger size of 600x600mm for this garden. This vastly reduced the number of joints in the paved area for a start. To fully meet the lower maintenance brief we have laid all these flags on a paving screed base - so no weeds come from below ; and all joints have been filled with Rompox to create a solid seal between each flag.

Other aspects of this job included painting fences, belfast brick and timber raised beds, a raised patio and new steps throughout.
